On Saturday, we threw a poolside cocktail party at Tom Collichio’s Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton with our co-host Chelsea Leyland and The Daily Summer to celebrate the second summer of the MILLY East Hampton boutique.
Located at 54 Main Street in East Hampton, the MILLY outpost is a cool collection of MILLY beach essentials, including a selection of hand-chosen hostess gifts. Stop by next time you’re in town!
With music by Chelsea Leyland, food by our favorite chef, Tom Collicio, and our Spring/Summer ‘14 ad campaign model, Loulou Robert in attendance, it was pretty much the perfect night. Check out the photobooth photos on Instagram (#MILLYMOMENT).

We all know that scoring the perfect outfit for July 4th is a must (and not always easy…). If you’re struggling to find the ultimate look that’s both striking and patriotic, we’ve got you covered. Here, we chose some of our favorite July 4th outfits that can take you from the beach to a BBQ…
2. For a pool party…there’s no better choice than the MILLY Parrot Print Micro Shorts. J.Lo approved (she wore these micro shorts in the music video for “We Are One”, the official 2014 Fifa World Cup song) they are modern and bold. Plus, they can be worn in the water!
We recently sat down with our friend and style icon, luxury accessories designer Yliana Yepez to find out how she got her start. Born in Paris, France and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Yliana’s designs reflect her worldy background, with modern silhouettes made of statement materials. Style favorites, such as Cara Delevingne and Olivia Palermo, have been spotted toting Yliana’s handbags - talk about cool girl cred.
Here, she gives us the low down on designing, growing up in Venezuela and being a mom.
1. What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Persistent, fun and enthusiastic.
2. What made you want to start designing?
It was all by coincidence. I was finishing my modeling career and wanted to do something different. I had always been intrigued in fashion design. I considered ready to wear but really found my calling in accessories design (sizing in clothing is complicated—no sizes involved with accessories!). I always loved to (over)accessorize and collecting unique pieces. It felt natural for me to begin designing handbags.
3. You’re from Venezuela – has that influenced your designs at all?
I grew up in Venezuela surrounded by ladies who were always very well-dressed. Maybe it was more so my lifestyle and travels than Venezuela per se that molded my design aesthetics but fashion runs in my blood!
4. What are some must-see attractions if you travel to Venezuela?
El Salto Angel, Canaima, and Los Roques beach. it is a MUST SEE.
5. What’s your favorite part about living in NYC?
I love walking down the city streets and observing people with different styles and cultures. I’m also inspired by the cityscape, and you can see that in my collection as well— the black and white raffia and soleil color way was inspired by NYC cabs.
6. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring one person, one item and one type of food, who and what would you bring?
The person would be my husband; the item, my phone and food, sushi for sureeeee.
7. Favorite article of clothing?
I’m not sure if this counts as clothing but shoes!!!!! I love shoes….A good pair of shoes can bring together an outfit just like a good handbag can.
We know summer weekends are like gold… and they slip by way too fast. Do your future weekend warrior self a favor and start planning your perfect weekend now with the MILLY Road Trip series. This week’s stop: The Hamptons.
MILLY founder and designer Michelle Smith has spent summer weekends in the Hamptons for the past 17 years, making it the ultimate place to open a MILLY East Hampton beach retreat boutique…Come visit us at 54 Main Street in East Hampton!
With each collection, Michelle Smith, founder and designer of MILLY designs signature prints that act as roadmaps for the ready to wear season. Here, we give you a behind the scenes look at how a print comes to life.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL:
Snapped by a member of the MILLY team, this photograph was taken in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle. Epitomizing the hustle and bustle of city life, the print features bright yellow NYC taxi cabs and the city’s stunning horizon. Transformed by our graphic designer into a continuous print, this design is truly one-of-a-kind.
HOW TO WEAR IT:
Transferred onto canvas, the city print is available in tote form. Carry this luxurious custom-made handbag when you’re looking to make a statement. A definite conversation starter, this tote features an interior zip compartment and is sized to fit all of your essentials, from your iPad to your beauty must-haves.
With summer just around the corner, it’s time to amp up your swimwear game. MILLY designer and founder Michelle Smith has designed a selection of must-have unique swimsuits for all body types, crafted in her one-of-a-kind prints and luxe fabrics. From a full coverage underwire bustier option to a classic string bikini, there’s plenty to choose from for all beach or poolside occasions.
Like any great party, the best part is the recap the next day, right? Last night, Chelsea Leyland turned it up in the DJ booth for our first annual MILLY Spring Fever party. Special guests Coco & Breezy stopped by for Peroni and champagne, while some of our favorite bloggers stopped by for custom MILLY sea blossom print manicures and some epic photobooth sessions.
Spring is almost here (hopefully…) which means it’s time to freshen up your wardrobe. If you’re looking for an easy way to update your warm-weather repertoire, we advise you grab a few white staples to carry you through the season. To make it easy, we’ve hand picked some of our favorite pieces…
Cut from a luxurious Italian square fil coupe, this white MILLY midi skirt will always be a hit, especially when paired with the matching crop top or a conversational graphic tee (think “Sorry for Partying”…) The delicate details in the fabric give this skirt texture, while the length makes it on-trend. Pair it with sandals for a day at the office and throw on heels when you’re ready to head to a rooftop beer garden.
If you’re in need of a versatile and lightweight topper, this cropped sailor blazer can’t be missed. MILLY designer Michelle Smith updates this classic shape in a tencel linen, keeping it weather-appropriate for the season. The cropped shape and slightly loose fit make it perfect for warmer days. For a polished look, pair it with the corresponding Cuffed Stella Shorts - this white-on-white look is feminine and modern.
What’s summer without a staple white dress? Crafted in a luxurious Italian tech stripes fabric, this sleeveless MILLY dress features bold leather binding, giving it the right amount of detail and edge. Plus, precise tailoring shapes the body, with a fitted bodice and flare skirt. We love this styled with killer heels and fun accessories.
Spring cleaning means out with the old and in with the new. If you’re searching for the ultimate handbag to complement your fresh spring picks, this is it. Made of a shiny leather and punctuated with oversized zippers and hardware details, this MILLY tote fits your daily essentials stylishly.
The MILLY FW ‘14 runway show was held on Monday, February 10 at Lincoln Center. Michelle Smith, founder and designer of MILLY divulges her inspiration for the collection of handbags here:
I started my line of handbags in 2011, 10 years after I began my ready to wear business. I love experimenting with fabrics and textures—this season I took it to a new level. Here, I’ll give you a sneak peek of what’s to come this fall.
1.The Riley Collection large tote: I love the structure of this handbag and the zipper with fringe adds a fashion-forward element. Carry it from work to weekend easily.
2. Blake Satchel: A ladylike silhouette, I love the classic nature of this satchel. In 5 colors with custom hardware, you can’t go wrong. The zipper is my favorite part—it’s oversize and gold. A true show-stopper.
3. Skylar Fur Satchel: Featuring vegan fur, this satchel will be available in blush, fuschia and black, adding texture and fun to any fall look.
4. Gold Croc small satchel: A little gold goes a long way. This gold croc embossed handbag will be available in a variety of silhouettes, but I’m partial to the small satchel, which easily goes from day to night and can never be outshone!
5. Logan Zip tote: All eyes on the zipper! I love this tote—it will be available in mini, small and large for all lifestyles.
6. Fringe clutch: Made of lamb leather, this swing-y clutch features two layers of fringe—it’s quite the attention-getter! Shown here in black, but it will also come in French blue, Ink and Caramel.
Backstage, the beauty at the MILLY FW ‘14 show was focused on natural, sheer makeup and nails.
Romy Soleimani created a sheer, opulent makeup look with the idea of a “ballerina off duty” as inspiration letting the models’ natural beauty stand out with the help of Kevyn Aucoin makeup and Arcona skincare.
Meanwhile, in the nail department, Essie followed suit, with two colors we like to think of as an updated version of ‘Ballet Slippers’ - with ‘Mademoiselle’ and ‘Cocktails and Coconuts’ the inspiration was polished and sheer.
