It’s safe to say we love spotting people in MILLY outfits - especially when the roster includes J.Lo and Solange Knowles. Over the past few weeks some of our favorite celebrities have been out and about wearing designer Michelle Smith’s signature pieces and we’ve been experiencing serious fashion envy.
If you’re in need of style inspiration for spring, look no further. We’ve put together a few of our favorite celebrity MILLY sightings to make it easy. CLICK THE SLIDESHOW TO SHOP THESE CELEB STATUS OUTFITS.
City Slickers: you know who you are. Never a dull moment, you live for the excitement and unpredictability that city life brings. Same goes for your wardrobe. Versatile, full of color and up for anything. Get the look now.
With each collection, Michelle Smith, founder and designer of MILLY designs signature prints that act as roadmaps for the ready to wear season. Here, we give you a behind the scenes look at how a print comes to life.
Where it comes from:
Last year, right after the MILLY FW ’13 runway show, Michelle went on vacation with her family to Hawaii and Japan. There, she was inspired by the colors of the surf and the tradition of florals in Japanese culture. Michelle set out to incorporate the beauty of the seascape into her Spring ’14 collection.
What makes it special:
It’s a print like no other! Hibiscus and other exotic florals intertwine with hues of seafoam and colorblocked cantaloupe and pops of white. If you ask us, it looks like a piece of art. Look familiar? You may have spotted our sea blossom print while flipping through the Spring Fashion issues of major magazines: it’s part of the MILLY Spring ’14 advertising campaign featuring model Loulou Robert.
How to wear it:
You can wear sea blossom six different ways—which is your style?
Last night marked one of our favorite nights of the year, the Academy Awards. While most people tune in to find out which of their favorite films and actors will walk away with an award, we are all about the fashion. From Jennifer Lawrence stumbling on the carpet (gracefully, per usual) in a stunning Dior dress to Lupita Nyong’o capturing Best Supporting Actress in a power blue Prada gown, the night was full of statement fashion moments. Scroll through the slideshow to see some of our favorite Oscar dresses and the MILLY looks that tie back to them. SHOP ALL DRESSES HERE.
One of our favorite fashion bloggers, Blair Eadie of Atlantic-Pacific, was recently photographed wearing a head-to-toe MILLY outfit, looking feminine yet edgy. GET HER MILLY DRESS AND COAT HERE. Not only do we admire Blair for braving the NYC cold and sporting a dress, but her mesh-on-mesh getup is utter perfection. Blair wears the MILLY Bustier Strap Dress and Cape Zip Coat, cut from an Italian honeycomb tech mesh material. Available in a variety of different styles, the luxurious, textured fabric is a spring staple for MILLY and will freshen up your spring wardrobe, whether in the form of a dress, skirt, top or coat. Blair completes her monochrome look with her signature Karen Walker sunglasses, statement jewels and of course, red lips. She epitomizes black and white done right.
Talk about a major MILLY moment - today, the one and only Lady Gaga was photographed in NYC wearing the MILLY Leather Shortalls. In classic Gaga style, she amps up her look with various textures and accessories (note her Pharrell-esque hat, circle sunglasses and floor-length coat.) She makes the shortalls weather appropriate by styling them with tights and a collared blouse underneath.
BEHIND THE SCENES: THE MILLY SPRING ‘14 AD CAMPAIGN
This season, French model Loulou Robert is once again the face of the MILLY advertising campaign. Sporting the MILLY Honeycomb Mesh Bustier Strap Dress, Loulou never ceases to amaze us with her effortlessness. Wonder what happens behind the scenes during the photo shoot? We made this exclusive video to bring you up to speed.
The MILLY FW ‘14 runway show was held on Monday, February 10 at Lincoln Center. Michelle Smith, founder and designer of MILLY divulges her inspiration for the collection of handbags here:
I started my line of handbags in 2011, 10 years after I began my ready to wear business. I love experimenting with fabrics and textures—this season I took it to a new level. Here, I’ll give you a sneak peek of what’s to come this fall.
1.The Riley Collection large tote: I love the structure of this handbag and the zipper with fringe adds a fashion-forward element. Carry it from work to weekend easily.
2. Blake Satchel: A ladylike silhouette, I love the classic nature of this satchel. In 5 colors with custom hardware, you can’t go wrong. The zipper is my favorite part—it’s oversize and gold. A true show-stopper.
3. Skylar Fur Satchel: Featuring vegan fur, this satchel will be available in blush, fuschia and black, adding texture and fun to any fall look.
4. Gold Croc small satchel: A little gold goes a long way. This gold croc embossed handbag will be available in a variety of silhouettes, but I’m partial to the small satchel, which easily goes from day to night and can never be outshone!
5. Logan Zip tote: All eyes on the zipper! I love this tote—it will be available in mini, small and large for all lifestyles.
6. Fringe clutch: Made of lamb leather, this swing-y clutch features two layers of fringe—it’s quite the attention-getter! Shown here in black, but it will also come in French blue, Ink and Caramel.
MILLY founder and designer Michelle Smith reports on her recent trip to the remote island of Petit St. Vincent. You may just need to book a trip…
A vacation in Petit St. Vincent is a (much-needed) escape I take with my husband, Andy, and my two children, Sophia and Will. It’s a week for playing in the sun and sand and family time, away from the city.
After two flights and a boat ride, we arrive at our destination—Petit St. Vincent, located directly below St. Vincent. Not easy to get to, but totally worth it.
Known for its rolling hills and gorgeous beach, surrounded by coral reefs, but what I love most is the privacy—no Internet, TV, or phones. Talk about seclusion!
As soon as we arrive at our airy cottage, the kids can’t wait to change into their swimsuits. We run to the water and enjoy the pristine white sand under our feet. (My daughter Sophia, as the inspiration for my children’s line, MILLY Minis, is wearing her favorite new cover-up while I grab my MILLY Fiji bikini and MILLY Guadas tunic. Meanwhile, my colorblock handbag, which doubles as a beach tote is fully loaded with Kiehl’s SPF 30 and beach toys.) We all head to the water immediately to spend what’s left of the day enjoying the water.
I’m a big believer that some sun, sand, relaxation, and rum punch can cure all winter doldrums. After just a short while in the sun, taking in the salty air and the gentle breeze, I’m already feeling completely relaxed.
The nearby hammock is perfect for lounging. I can’t wait for the snorkeling, excursions, island dinners, and dancing-by-moonlight to come.
